1 year checkup
Yesterday we took Oliver to the doctors office for his 1 year checkup. All is good in Oliver-land. He's big (in the 91st % for height and 87% for weight) and healthy. He got a couple shots and a TB test and he took them like a champ.
He's babbling and toddling and eating everything he can get his hands on. He's becoming a little person, and starting to develop a little personality. It's nice to watch. It's also heart warming to see him toddle and lunge after his brother. Finally, after months of being tackled by Gibson he's at long last able to tackle back. I'm sure it's the just the start of the antics.

piggy back
Oliver spend much of our trip to the Mohonk Mountain house just like this.... on daddy's back. Todd hiked all over with Ollie back there. I think this photo is one of my favorites..... the twilight sky reflecting off the lake, the almost sleeping baby and Todd taking in the breathtaking view..... I for one can not wait to go back.... Thanks to Pops for making our trip for Granie's surprise 70th birthday happen.

Almost 1!

He is currently bursting out of clothing sized 12 months, so I'd stick to 18-24 month stuff (24 month and/or 2T is definitely too big/long. We have so so so much summer stuff, so clothing wise he could use some things autumn/winter to fill the holes left by hand-me-downs from Gibson.

teeth!
Everything is going great. Oliver is 11 months old today! I can hardly believe it. But look at those teeth in the photo up there! Those are the teeth of an almost toddler, for sure.
He is cruising around the living room holding on to the furniture with ease. He's getting more and more sure footed as he walks when I'm holding onto his hands. He can even do it when I am holding onto only 1 of his hands. Walking on his own can't be far away!

Now that Ollie can move himself around and get to where he wants to go, this tag-like game is a regular thing around these parts. Gibson wants his brother to chase him SO BADLY. And Ollie is almost always obliging. Sometimes it works the other way around too.

Dear Oliver,
You're 9 months old today which means you've been out in this world for as long as I kept you safe and sound inside of me. And you've still got so much more growing and learning to do on your journey. I hope you'll always feel like you could come to me, and hope you'll always want to- when everything is great or even when it's not. We're journeying together, at least part of the way. I hope you'll be patient with me, I've never had 2 children before, you know? And while you and your brother are wonderful little people you can also be incredibly challenging. Especially when no one's gotten a good night's sleep. And hopefully I can try to be patient too. But you must always remember that I'll love you forever, no matter what.

Up and At 'em!
Yesterday while my good friend Casey was visiting Ollie was playing on the floor in front of me. He reached up and pulled himself to a stand using the coffee table. Casey remarked, 'Oh, he's doing that now?' while I fumbled with my phone in order to snap this not very good picture. It was his first time. Soon there will be no stopping him.
Also, he's got 2 teeth on top now to go with his 2 below.

Hey!
I have to dig the stats out of a diaper bag so I can update this site with his size. His doctors appointment was almost 2 weeks ago now, and he's doing just fine. He's just dying to stand up and walk, and still working on crawling. He is proficient at rolling around and he gets himself up onto his hands and knees and rocks back and forth. One of these days he'll just take off, I just know it! He's also enjoying all stage 2 baby foods and still only has 2 teeth.

I can hardly believe that Ollie's 8 months old already! He goes in for a checkup tomorrow, and of course I'll update his stats after I know them. I'll take a wild guess and say he's as heavy as a big sack of potatoes and pretty tall!

Chubs
I'm kinda amazed that my little tiny baby is now an enormous 6 month old. He's healthy and generally happy (except when we are trying to get him to go to sleep at night). He's definitely becoming more aware of his surroundings and leans towards and lunges for both his brother and our cat. He's also started raising his arms up when he wants Todd or me to pick him up. It's cute. The separation anxiety is a little less cute.
He's started to jabber... he's said 'mamamama' clearly not in reference to me, but hey! I'll take what I can get.
Also not cute is his current not sleeping phase. He spoiled us early on by sleeping though the night at about 2 months, maybe waking once to nurse..... It was lovely. But being a baby, he totally is doing what babies do, and changing it all up on us. He's been waking up about 2-4 times a night for the past month and it's kinda killing me. Unlike his brother who nursed for 45 minute or longer at a time- at least Ollie only nurses for 5-10 minutes, but still, waking every 2 hours is really exhausting. I desperately hope he goes back to sleeping better once his first teeth FINALLY come in.
Did I mention that he still hasn't gotten any teeth? He doesn't. I know they are in there just dying to come out... I wish they would already.
It's a good thing he's adorable... look at those cheeks!! Totally pinch-able.

6 months
Holy crow time is flying! Just look at my giant baby! I'm happy to report that he's healthy and doing well. He was a real champ at his doctor's visit yesterday. He didn't complain once, not even for his shot. He even giggled a little just after Dr. Keith slapped a bandaid on his chunky thigh. That's my boy!

Solids!
Ollie's finally showing interest in solids. I waited a few weeks after the first try since all he did was push the food out of his mouth with his tongue. Now he leans towards the spoon with an open mouth and does a good job swallowing. Sure sometimes he exhales into the spoon and the purees wind up all over his face, but that's the cute part... right? So far he's had bananas, mangos, and pears.

So called solids
Ollie's doing great. He's a big healthy baby boy, slightly bigger even than his brother was at this age. He's been gaining about 2 pounds a month and is currently busting out of his 3-6 month clothing, though most of his 6-9 is a little big yet. We've tried to introduce mashed sweet peas mixed with milk into his diet, but he's not really into it. He mostly pushes everything we get into his mouth back out with his tongue (he does the same when we give him his vitamins, and any medicines). So we'll keep trying, but we're not forcing the issue. For now he's thriving on just breastmilk.
He hasn't gotten any teeth yet, but I expect to see them every day since drool runs from his mouth like a leaky faucet and he seems to be experiencing teething pains. I am actually surprised every day when I rub his gums and don't feel a sharp little tooth poking through yet.
Oliver has come a long way from the fussy gassy tiny little thing that came home from the hospital with us on my birthday. It turns out that he is quick to giggle and smile and laugh (he laughed at a much earlier age than his brother) and there is little more he loves than watching Gibson play and sing. He's very alert and the way he leans towards his brother it seems that he can't wait to get up and join in the fun.
